What to Expect

We know it can be intimidating to visit a new place.

We want your first visit to Shepherd of the Plains to be comfortable and inviting. Here are a few things you can expect on Sunday morning.

Friendly Faces & Meaningful Worship

When you walk through our doors, Pastor Kasper and friendly greeters will welcome you and get you settled. You'll enjoy a blend of contemporary and traditional music, follow a familiar liturgical order of service each week, and hear an engaging sermon rooted in that Sunday's Scripture — all with on-screen or printed guides so you never feel lost.

More questions? No problem!

  • We have Bible Study before the service at 9:30. This is a special time to dig into God’s Word and enjoy fellowship with other people going through life just like you. It’s a perfect time to slow down and grab coffee and a donut!

  • The service will be about an hour long, with a 15-20 minute sermon. You’re invited not just to “experience” it, but to truly be part of it! Our Pastor isn’t the main character. The service is designed for you to participate with the family of believers!

  • Wear whatever is comfortable to you! For some of our members that’s jeans and boots. For others it’s their favorite dress or polo. Come as you are - we’re glad you’re here!

  • During the service, we have a special time set aside for the children’s sermon. This brings Sunday’s message down to their level in a meaningful way. We also have kids bags for your little ones to use during the service. If you need to step away for a moment, we have a Mother’s Room in the back as well.

  • We are a Lutheran church! We’re part of a larger church body called the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

This means that we join with nearly 1,300 other congregations across the United States and Canada united by a common faith in Christ’s saving love. We are committed to a common calling—encouraging each other in our faith and sharing God’s gift of a Savior with the rest of the world.

  • We’d love the opportunity to talk to you more about the saving truth of Jesus!

You can learn more about what we believe here or reach out to Pastor Kasper to chat further.

What We Believe

  • We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, free from error. What we believe and teach is rooted in the timeless, changeless words of God’s Word where he tells us about himself. It is our guideline for living out our faith as Christians.

  • We believe there is only one true God who is holy, eternal, and almighty. In the Bible, God reveals himself as Triune - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • We believe that we lost the image of God when Adam & Eve disobeyed God and gave into the temptation of Satan. Since that time, all people are born sinful and separated from God. We’re unable to reconcile ourselves to God on our own.

  • We believe God sent his only Son, Jesus, to live a perfect life and endure death to take away the sins of all people. Because of this, we are fully and freely forgiven. We believe that faith comes through the saving gospel message and the work of the Holy Spirit on our hearts.

  • We believe that baptism is a holy act instituted by God. Using water and God’s Word, baptism offers and gives the forgiveness of sins, spiritual life, and eternal salvation.

We believe that baptism is meant for both young and old, including children. Infants also are sinful and therefore need the spiritual rebirth brought about through baptism.

  • At Shepherd of the Plains, we practice Member Communion. We believe that communion is an expression of our unity in faith. We’d love to have a conversation with you to discuss what we believe before you make this public confession. Contact Pastor Kasper with your questions.

  • Before becoming a member, Pastor will take you through our Bible Information Class where you’ll cover topics like faith, salvation, baptism, and holy communion. This Bible basics course lays the groundwork for what we believe at Shepherd of the Plains.

It’s a safe place to ask your spiritual questions and get answers from the Bible. You can learn more by reaching out to Pastor Kasper.

What is a Lutheran?

The Lutheran Church has deep roots dating back more than 500 years. The teachings of the Lutheran Church are not new - they are the teachings of the Bible!

We believe that our salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and based on Scripture alone.
